NewsSt. Pete Times Forum to Host Backpack and School Supply Drive to Benefit Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA
First 75 Participants to Receive One Free Voucher to Disney On Ice presents Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey at the St. Pete Times Forum
TAMPA BAY – The St. Pete Times Forum will host a backpack and school supply drive on behalf of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA on Friday, July 30. The collection is part of the “Community Friendly Friday” program.
The Times Forum will be collecting backpacks and school supplies at the Box Office from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Each year, the YMCA provides backpacks filled with school supplies to hundreds of children in the community without financial resources. The collected backpacks will be distributed at a YMCA back-to-school event in Riverview on August 14, 2010. Examples of needed supplies include pencils, notebook paper, scissors and glue. “We are here to ‘help our neighbors,’” said Cindy Sofarelli of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA. “It is one of the foundations of our organization and our social responsibility. Brandon area YMCA’s are reaching out to the greater southeast Hillsborough community to help kids start school on the right foot with backpacks and school supplies. The needs are so very great this year and we thank the community for stepping up to support our mission. We couldn’t do it without you!”
Donors are encouraged to arrive early, as the first 75 participants will receive a voucher good for one complimentary ticket to the opening night of Disney On Ice presents Mickey & Minnie’s Magical Journey at the St. Pete Times Forum on September 9 (limit one per person). A special prize wheel will also be available, in which all participating community members will have the opportunity to win additional prizes, including Tampa Bay Storm seat upgrades, Lightning merchandise, tickets to select concerts, and Lightning autographed items.
“Community Friendly Friday” is a program created to help drive donation campaigns orchestrated by local non-profit organizations across the Tampa Bay area. On select Fridays throughout the summer, the St. Pete Times Forum will host a special community initiative on behalf of these groups. Those contributing to the cause will receive a voucher redeemable for four tickets to a Tampa Bay Storm home game,plus additional ticket offers throughout the campaign.
