NewsMetropolitan Ministries and St. Pete Times Forum Host Summer Food Drive The St. Pete Times Forum will conduct a summer-long food drive to help stock the critically bare shelves of Tampa’s Metropolitan Ministries. After hearing about the Ministries’ shortfall in both monetary and food donations, the venue has offered to step up and help those less fortunate in the Tampa Bay Community. Although Christmas donations pour in once a year for the Ministries, needy families depend upon the services the organization provides 365 days a year. This drive comes at a critical time of year. The summer months and current state of the economy are the driving forces leading the Ministries to depend on organizations like The St. Pete Times Forum for its livelihood. “We are grateful for the continued support of the St. Pete Times Forum. The growing need for the Ministries’ programs and services is taxing on our resources. The Ministries remains committed to those we serve. By extending this opportunity to the patrons of the Forum, we will be able to express our mission to a broad audience and ensure no family goes hungry this summer,” said Morris Hintzman, President of Metropolitan Ministries. Using the exciting summer lineup of shows at the St. Pete Times Forum to support the food drive, the following discount offers will be available: Tampa Bay Storm v. Cleveland – May 23 – free upper level ticket with a donation of 5 cans of food This offer is valid at the McDonald’s Box Office at the St. Pete Times Forum only. Donations can be brought to the box office Monday - Friday. Box office hours are 9am – 6pm on non-event weekdays; 9am – 2pm on non-event Saturdays, and 9am – approximately 8pm on event days. All offers are subject to availability.
Metropolitan Ministries is a non-profit, nondenominational, faith based organization that faithfully provides answers for poor and homeless families. In 2007 alone, more than 1.8 million hot meals were served to area needy, and over 100 families per day were served through outreach programs. Over 2,000 meals a day are consumed weekly by needy families through the 23 Meal Site Partner Program. Founded in 1972 by 13 downtown Tampa Churches, this community supported ministry has earned the trust and support of charitable individuals, volunteers, businesses, churches, synagogues, civic organizations, schools and collaborative partners. Metropolitan Ministries does not depend on government funding and is not a United Way agency. Today, Metropolitan Ministries offers a wide spectrum of supportive services to alleviate suffering, promote human dignity and instill self-sufficiency. As such, Metropolitan Ministries is becoming known beyond the Tampa Bay community as one of America’s most effective and innovative caregivers.
