NewsSmokey Robinson Celebrates 50 Years in Motown Smokey Robinson Tribute on Ice – November 11, 2009, 7:30pm TAMPA BAY- Smokey Robinson, one of the most influential figures in music for over five decades will be returning to the St. Pete Times Forum on Veteran’s Day, November 11th, for a spectacular skating and musical production of “Smokey Robinson Tribute On Ice”. This special performance will feature some of figure skating’s finest, including Olympic Gold Medalist Brian Boitano, six-time U.S. National champion Todd Eldredge, World champion Yuka Sato and many more. Robinson was one of the pioneers of the legendary Motown sound and has recently released a new album Time Flies When You’ve Having Fun, which includes collaborations with the musical talents of Joss Stone, Carlos Santana, and India.Irie. Smokey also tributes his beloved friend, Michael Jackson on the new album with a remake of the classic Jackson 5 track, “I Want You Back”. Over 4,000 songs to credit his musical career of 50 years, the selection for this commemorative event will include his timeless Motown classics as well as material from the recently released album. On June, 26th 2009, Smokey received the 2009 Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award on behalf of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) during its 22nd Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. This award is added to many lifetime accomplishments, including the election into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and receipt of the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
