NewsXtreme Fighting Championship serves up menu of non-stop action at its
Showcase Event Set for March 19, 2010 at the St. Pete Times Forum
TAMPA BAY – It will be a night of high intensity and non-stop action when the largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion on the East Coast, Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC), kicks off 2010 with its “Night of Champions” showcase event on March 19, live on HDNet from the St. Pete Times Forum.
The XFC serves up two explosive title fights to hungry MMA fans, including a bout between XFC Lightweight Champion John “The Mulatto Mauler” Mahlow (12-11) and Junior Assuncao (9-4). It will be all out war when Mahlow’s high-energy offensive assault and smothering ground game challenges Assuncao’s intense grappling style. Assuncao is one of the Nation’s top lightweight prospects with his experience against some of the top fighters, including Ultimate Fighter Season 5 winner, Nate Dias.
The second title fight of the night features Jarrod “The Wild Card” Card facing off with Jason “The Iron Man” Wood for the XFC Featherweight Title. Card has built his reputation with supportive fans by delivering fast-paced action during his bouts. This match-up is certain to be a pain-fest as both fighters are known for being extremely well-rounded fighters with high kicking ability and strong punches.
MMA fans will fill up on even more action with an XFC buffet of battles throughout the night featuring some of the hardest hitting fighters in the cage, including Chris “Beast Boy” Barnett, Bruce “The Noose” Connors and Derek Schiffer.
MMA is an evolving combat art in which competitors use integrated forms of fighting that includes jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, boxing, Taekwon-Do, wrestling and others to overcome their opponent in a sanctioned and supervised match. Competitors are allowed to use all martial techniques to end the fight within the limits of the Mainstream MMA rules.
Since the St. Pete Times Forum hosted its first XFC MMA fight card in November 2007, the XFC has done multiple events with 8-10 thousand fans in attendance.
Each fighter is assigned to compete in their appropriate weight class. The different weight classes are Bantamweight (under 135 lbs.), Featherweight (136 lbs. to 145 lbs.), Lightweight (146 lbs. to 155 lbs.), Welterweight (156 lbs. to 170 lbs.), Middleweight (171 lbs. to 185 lbs.), Light Heavyweight (186 lbs. to 205 lbs.), and Heavyweight (205 lbs. to 265 lbs.). Mainstream MMA reserves the right to set different weight limits under reviewed conditions.
All non-championship bouts are three rounds, and all championship bouts are five rounds. Rounds are five minutes in duration for all professional bouts.
