St. Pete Times Forum Kicks Off the Month with Busiest Week In Venue's History
4/4/2008

The St. Pete Times Forum gets ready for a busy week of events ranging from last night’s important win for the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Florida Panthers, to a ground-breaking arena performance of Cirque du Soleil.

“As busy as this week is for us, it is emblematic of our goal to drive as many guests into the Channelside District as we can,” said Ron Campbell, President of the Lightning and the St. Pete Times Forum. “The busier the Times Forum is, the more vibrant our downtown becomes each and everyday. We take our role as caretaker of the arena seriously and we will continuously strive to attract as many events into the arena as we can on a regular basis. The heavy activity is good for Channelside, for Tampa and our entire community. We hope everyone gets the chance to come out and enjoy one of these great events this week.”

Events throughout the week include:

Monday, April 3 – Tampa Bay Lightning v. Florida Panthers – Last night’s win over the Florida Panthers was an important one. Vinny Lecavalier had two goals and an assist, and Sean Burke stopped 29 shots in his first start since returning from a broken finger, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 victory over the Panthers. The win lifted the Lightning into a tie with idle Montreal for seventh place in the Eastern Conference and also put a crimp in Florida's chances of sneaking into the eighth -- and final -- playoff position.

Wednesday, April 5 – Mercedes-Benz Classic - The 3rd Annual Mercedes-Benz Classic returns to Tampa Bay on Wednesday, April 5th! This World-Class Tennis event will feature a celebrity-packed line up, including Jim Courier, Chris Evert, Anna Kournikova and John McEnroe, coming together in support of this charity event! Proceeds from this event benefit the Raymond James Courier’s Kids Foundation, which assists underprivileged children through mentoring, academic assistance, and tennis programs through the St. Petersburg Tennis Center and First Serve Program. In association with the St. Petersburg Times, Bright House Networks and Kane’s.

Thursday, April 6 – Tampa Bay Lightning v. Atlanta Thrashers – the Lightning takes on the Thrashers for their second match-up in an eight-day span, as they continue to advance to the playoffs.

Friday, April 7 – Tampa Bay Storm v. San Jose - the Tampa Bay Storm are alive and well in the National Conference playoff picture following their victory last weekend against the Utah Blaze.

Saturday, April 8 – Tampa Bay Lightning v. Pittsburgh Penguins – the Lightning pushes ahead for the Playoffs by taking on the Penguins.

Sunday, April 9 and Monday April 10 – Cirque du Soleil’s ‘DELIRIUM’
Cirque du Soleil presents DELIRIUM, its first-ever live arena event. Created and directed by Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, DELIRIUM is a multifaceted event of unprecedented proportion featuring Cirque du Soleil music remixed. Driven by an urban tribal beat and spectacular awe-inspiring visuals, the musicians, singers and dancers transform the arena into joyous frenzy. Variety Magazine describes it as a “bold new look” and says DELIRIUM, which debuted in Montreal last month, is “off to a winning start.”

Tuesday, April 11 – Tampa Bay Lightning v. Atlanta Thrashers the Lightning pushes ahead for the Playoffs as the regular season begins to wind down.
