Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series Charges Into St. Pete Times Forum January 30 & 31

Tampa Bay – The St. Pete Times Forum will transform from hockey ice to dirt on January 30-31 for the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS). On Saturday, January 30 at 7:50 p.m. and Sunday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m., fans will get the experience of a lifetime when they witness pounding music, thrilling pyrotechnics and the toughest athletes on the planet at The Tampa Invitational.
Fans will have the opportunity to see 2009 World Champion Kody Lostroh, BFTS World Standings leader J.B. Mauney, PBR Superstars Cord McCoy and Travis Briscoe, 2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi and fan favorites Ryan McConnel and Shane Proctor. These athletes will be competing for the chance to qualify for the biggest event of the season: The 2010 PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Riders will complete three rounds of competition at The Tampa Invitational. The first two rounds will feature the top 40 bull riders matched against the PBR’s toughest bulls. The scores from the two rides will be combined, and the riders with the top 15 scores will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round after intermission on Saturday, January 31. In the end, the cowboy with the highest total score on three bulls will be declared the winner.
Two-time World Champion Chris Shivers will be available for interviews on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22, 2010. Shivers has numerous history-making achievements which include becoming the first PBR bull rider to reach the $3 million mark (2003); the first PBR bull rider to register 13 90-point rides in one season (1998); the highest marked rider in PBR history (a 96.5 point ride), a score he has recorded not only once, but twice; and the first bull rider to win three consecutive Bud Light Cup events (2000).
Shivers’ athletic ability and positive attitude have captured the hearts of PBR fans around the country as well as the attention of national media. Shivers has appeared on several national television shows including The Best Damn Sports Show, The Today Show, and Last Call with Carson Daly, as well as being a featured member of the Rolling Stone Magazine's Sports Hall of Fame.
The PBR is the premiere bull riding organization in the world, boasting contestants from the United States, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Canada, Its events air weekly on VERSUS, NBC, CBS, and FOX and in recent years it has been tagged the ‘fastest growing sport in the country.’
The Tampa Invitational airs on VERSUS Friday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m. (EST) and again on Saturday, January 31 at 8:00pm (EST). Please check your local listings for times and more information.
